Clubs and Activities: What’s on

Things to do in Coventry, Summer 2023

We’ve taken the liberty of reproducing a list of activities from Coventry Live and TripAdvisor  for families in Coventry this summer:

Coventry Transport Museum

This regularly comes top of things to do in Coventry, and won a Traveller’s Choice Award from the rankings website this year. It promises a unique experience for the whole family and reviewers agree that it’s got lots to entertain the kids.

You can wander through 19th Century streets and discover the first bicycles, carriages and cars, before exploring the first car factories.

Coventry Music Museum

Another Travellers Choice 2023 Award winner, this museum celebrates music from Coventry and Warwickshire in all its forms. Reviewers rave about the museum with its interactive exhibits and friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Coventry Cathedral

It’s famous all over the world and right on our doorstep. After the original building was bombed during the Second World War, Coventry Cathedral was opened in 1962 and designed by Sir Basil Spence. If you’re unsure whether it’s suitable for kids, many reviewers mention that they’ve visited as adults recently after being awe-inspired on a visit when they were children.

St Mary’s Guildhall

Described as an undiscovered hidden gem in a unique historical setting, St Mary’s Guildhall tells the story of 700 years of history covering power, propaganda and partying. The tea rooms also get rave reviews.

Herbert Art Gallery and Museum

If you haven’t been to see Dippy yet, what are you waiting for? The famous diplodocus cast is on display at the Herbert and has been drawing visitors from far and wide. There’s also interactive displays and exhibitions covering the natural world, modern art and the Old Masters. You can even discover your ancestors’ history in the Coventry Archives.

Belgrade Theatre

There’s always lots happening at the Belgrade. For the little ones, Zog is running next week, from Wednesday, 26 to Sunday, 30 July with Hey Duggee arriving in August. Plus there’s summer school theatre workshops for older kids aged 8 to 17.

The Phil Silvers Archival Museum

Perhaps more of a specialist activity but it will appeal to the young budding comedian in your family. It’s dedicated to the life and work of the entertainer, with personal effects, posters, photographs, books and memorabilia.

Holy Trinity Church

Explore more of Coventry’s history with a visit to this city centre church. There’s a gargoyle, which will appeal to kids and a beautiful atmosphere with a mediaeval Doom painting.

Fargo Village

With niche retailers, artists’ studios, creative workspaces, crafts, cafes and a market, this is somewhere to take a few hours to explore. You might even find something that will keep the kids entertained when you get home. FarGo Village also holds regular events, such as music and street food.

The Wave

No rainy day entertaining the kids in Coventry would be complete without a trip to the Wave. The indoor waterpark has six slides ‘precision-engineered for maximum fun’. Recent reviews say the queues haven’t been too long and that it’s recommended for kids and teenagers.

Warwick Arts Centre

More one for older kids but you can see the new Mission Impossible film here. For the younger ones, Elemental is showing from next Friday, 28th July.

The Weaver’s House

A visit to this restored mediaeval building is ‘like stepping back in time’ according to reviewers. The museum is described as a ‘hidden gem’ with knowledgeable volunteers who can explain and even show you the process of spinning wool.from Coventry Live and Tripadvisor
