Wall Art

The Ponderosa Wall

Three panels of the wall were completed before the City of Culture People and Places grant ran out.

Work then halted for two years due to lack of finances.  Then in June 2023, a locally- based donor gave £5000 for the work to resume.  The artist chosen to do the work is Michael Batchelor who has been helped by two project managers: Joy Warren and Mak Harris, who are both Core Members of THCP.

Due to rainy weather in August followed by scorching weather at the beginning of September, the art work has taken longer than expected but by 6th September the work is 4/5th complete.

The wall has proven to be very porous and the base coats of black and grey paint couldn’t cover the wall satisfactorily. Unfortunately, the donation allotted to materials ran out at the end of August. A request was made of Precious Metal Deposits (PMD) on Broad Lane to purchase some more cans of base paint.  With PMD’s generosity, the work has continued.
